Help us fund our next all-women art exhibit

Why give to Surfergirl?

  • We give artists the chance to exhibit in major art markets and fairs otherwise unaccessible to new talent.

  • It is estimated that only 14% of all art in galleries and museums in the US is by women, we are committed to changing that.

  • We search, nurture, and curate artwork from emerging talent on the rise that we believe are museum-worthy.

  • While art by women is on the rise, total art sales by women in a given year are still less than that of a single male artist: Picasso.

  • We don’t believe in gender stereotypes, we support extraordinary art by new artists that happen to self-identify as women.

  • We never charge our artists to exhibit with Surfergirl and only take 20% over artwork sold vs. the customary 50-65%.

“Thanks to Surfergirl I was able to exhibit at Miami Art Week and launch my career.”

Constanza Laguna

“I’d collect from Surfergirl even if it wasn't art by women, but that it is makes it irresistible.”

Aedin Moloney

“Surfergirl opened my eyes to the bias in the art industry and inspired me to keep going.”

 FAQs

  • No we are not, we believe women artists should profit from their art. We accept donations to make up for the fact that we refuse to charge artists the customary 50-65% gallery commission on sale, and support emerging talent at a lower price point.

  • Yes, you can buy art. We also value the opportunity to exhibit and any offers for free exhibition space. Be it at a gallery or in public places, we have placed art in hotels, lobbies, and even at the DVF flagship store in Manhattan.

  • Like any gallery, we believe in investing in our artists until they become established so unfortunately we don’t often have the capacity to take on new artists. However, we love hearing from artists and are always seeking for ways to expand our impact.

  • One number one criteria is quality, we believe our Surfergirls will be in museums some day. Secondly, we represent art that celebrates our “arte feliz” aesthetic, see more under gallery. Third, we look for diversity in medium, background, nationality, and discipline, we seek to expand the notion of “what’s art”.
